This month we talk to Jasmin & Stephan from Cin Cin, Creative Studios about the topic of "Rituals". Cin Cin is a design studio known for branding and consulting and has caught our attention, especially in the art and culture scene.

#1 When we talk about rituals: what has worked for you? Do you have any rituals that you stick to?

Jasmin: Following rituals means staying within my comfort zone. Rituals provide the foundation for my structured daily routine. As a designer, this is especially important for me because it allows me to consciously step out of my comfort zone to push towards extraordinary perspectives and ideas. I appreciate the contrast between clearly structured time and the time dedicated to free, creative work.

Stephan: I like to think about rituals for myself and the studio, but in the end I usually realise that I cannot and do not want to follow a pattern. Constantly testing out different rituals seems to describe my approach better.

#2 What do you have to break with it in order to be contemporary? Or do you have to?

Jasmin: For me, rituals don’t necessarily contrast with something contemporary. Sure, if you view rituals as clinging to old habits, that would equate to stagnation. But I see them more as a tool to create a stable foundation. Rituals, for me, create the space for free thinking, so it wouldn’t be wise for me personally to break away from them.

Stephan: You always have to question the familiar and sometimes change it. Constantly developing your own thinking is essential in our profession.

#3 What do you think is good design? What is your approach?

Jasmin & Stephan: Good design for us has a cultural impact. In this context, we understand ‘culture’ to mean that the design solution is not only aesthetically convincing, but also brings improvements in terms of content, structure and strategy for our customers and their audiences. We like solutions that improve the status quo and are truly original.

#4 What can others learn from you?

Jasmin & Stephan: At Cin Cin, we believe every company, institution, and brand has a unique culture that drives their actions and shapes their community. We specialize in bringing this culture to life and creating it where it’s missing. This is not only reserved for the cultural sector, but also applies to every other industry.

#5 What are you currently learning that you're not yet so good at?

Jasmin: As media and technologies continue to evolve, there is always something new to learn. Often, it's more important for me to understand how something works. On the other hand, I’m constantly searching for balance between work, family, and myself. Certain rituals help me with this, but even these need to be adapted to new circumstances from time to time.

Stephan: I am increasingly learning to use my time in a more focussed way and to concentrate on the things that are particularly important to me. The hardest part is giving up my own perfectionism and trusting that things will still turn out very well.
